| Translation |
| These options do not include translation from English to Irish per se. Explanations will be gladly given whenever the need arises in conversation. It is not envisaged however that the student present the tutor with an obscure early modern text by an author such as Seathrún Céitinn and expect an instant explanation. The objective of the lessons is to help the student to speak Irish. |
| The International Phonetic Alphabet |
| Description of the sounds of Irish does not include scientific linguistic descriptions using tools such as the IPA. The student should expect no more than a spoken pronunciation of words and phrases and correction of his/her own pronunciation. |
| Dialect |
| Tuition will not be offered specifically in a traditional dialect. Every Irish speaker uses the pronunciation of one or other of the dialects. Each tutor will have knowledge of the most salient features of the major dialects. Students will be invited to state their preferred dialect. |
