SAMPLE ESSAYS FOR JUNIOR CERT [ TOP ]

  • PICTURES

As in the Department of Education Junior Cert Ordinary Level Exam Papers, pictures provide a focus for the lesson. Each page contains a panel of links to all other related pages: text, notes, audio file, etc so that the teacher or student can change back and forth at will.

  • SAMPLE TEXT
A sample text is offered for each picture and for the essay or story as a whole.

There is nothing "ordinary level" about the language however. This is an ideal opportunity to teach and to learn.

For the convenience of teachers each icture can be displayed without accompanying text or notes

  • EXPLANATIONS,

Obviously students should learn to use dictionaries - both online and in hard copy -but we want to make things easy so we offer a translation for each phrase likely to cause difficulty. Advanced students can ignore these.

  • CONVERSATIONAL AS WELL AS NARRATIVE IRISH

great for aquiring vocabulary and the Gaeltacht idiom used in everyday speech but seldom found in old-style written essays.

  • AUDIO FILES

with these a student can listen again and again to the essay being read while watching the text or studying the notes. Listening will help the student aquire good pronunciation, a knowledge of how spoken Irish is phrased and an opportunity to prepare for the aural comprehension exams.

  • EXERCISES WITH E-MARKING & E-REPORTS

These ensure that the student really gets to grips with the meaning of the words and phrases without generating a vast amount of corrections for the teacher in out of school time. Exercises are automatically marked at the press of a button and markes awarded. These marks are cumulative and may be used as a form of continuous assessment.

  • COMPREHENSION EXERCISES AND QUESTIONS TO PROMPT CONVERSATION

We supply questions to enable students to speak Irish together in groups. These will make it easier for the teacher to get the students to practice speaking Irish using the new phrases and idioms learnt from the sample text and from the conversation notes mentioned above.

  • TOPICS FOR THE ORAL IRISH EXAM

These pictorial essays comprise excellent material for Oral Irish Exams at any level. Obviously the topics will be more advanced at Higher Level but the ability to recognise and answer basic questions as well as knowing how to say "Yes" and "No" in Irish by using the verb will stand to a student at all levels.
